Bankroll Sports columnists have provided an NFL football team preview on the 2008 Baltimore Ravens. Read for information on what to expect from the Ravens for the upcoming 2008 NFL Football Picks season. |
Will new coach John Harbaugh finally bring back success to a Ravens squad that dropped-off from thirteen regular season wins in 06' to just five in 2007. If winning only five lousy games wasn't bad enough for Baltimore fans, this Ravens team was also upset by the one-win Dolphins last year. The "Air" McNair era is finally over, creating a QB competition/controversy between highly-touted rookie Quarterback Joe Flacco from Delaware and the always sub-par Kyle Boller. Second-year QB, Troy Smith from Ohio State also showed some small flashes last year and just may be in the running for the starting QB job. More then likely the Ravens will go with the more experienced Boller instead of feeding Flacco to the proverbial wolves. Depending on how things go, Flacco may see some playing time if the team doesn't win games under Boller. If Boller's previous season's play is any indication of how things will go, Flacco should be seeing snaps very early. All and all, it's Kyle Boller's last chance to make his mark in the Raven organization.
Offensive mind, Cam Cameron should shake things up with the Ravens offense and Kyle Boller may see some success (or failure) because of it. This offseason, the Ravens added free agents; Brensan Ayenbadejo who can made an immediate impact on defense, along with Fabian Washington and Frank Walker who should increase the teams depth in the defensive backfield. Rookie running back Ray Rice should make a nice compliment to veteran Willis McGahgee. McGahee can also take Ray Rice under his wing and help him use that raw talent Rice has as a North/South runner.
As usual, the Raven defense will need to play big in order for them to have any success this season. The "D" should be able to create enough turnovers and big plays in effort to keep this team in games in 2008. However, if Kyle Boller isn't able to get it done again, young Joe Flacco's development may hold this team back from having any success for the nest year or so. The Baltimore schedule is no picnic either as they have one of the leagues most difficult schedules which includes late season games vs. multiple playoff teams from last season, including Jacksonville (12/28), Pittsburgh (12/7), and Dallas (12/20).
