Bankroll Sports columnists have provided an NFL football team preview on the 2008 Detroit Lions. Read for information on what to expect from the Lions for the upcoming 2008 NFL Football Picks season. |
The perennial lousy NFL team actually showed some signs of life in 2007. They started off strong but lost it towards the end of the season. The 2008 team looks to build on the good start from 2007 and it looks like they might be able to do it. John Kitna is a solid quarterback who has good receiving help from Roy Williams and Calvin Johnson. This is a great air attack, but the problem is the running game. With no running game to speak of, the Lions relied on the pass too much and let Kitna get hit constantly. With the drafting of Kevin Smith, the Lions are hoping to revive a running attack that has been on life support since the departure of Barry Sanders.
Kevin Smith should be a great football player in the NFL. Even though he went in the third round, he is a strong running back who can make a difference immediately. If Smith proves to be a consistent runner, the Detroit offense will open up more and score points.
The schedule doesn’t look promising for a team who started strong in 2007 and then fell apart. The end of the schedule is brutal with the Lions playing four 2007 playoff teams in the final six games. If the Lions are on the playoff bubble, don’t look for any help from teams like Indianapolis (Week 15) or Green Bay (Week 17). The Lions are a team on the rise. Look for them to be competitive in 2008.
