Bankroll Sports columnists have provided an NFL football team preview on the 2008 New Orleans Saints. Read for information on what to expect from the Saints for the upcoming 2008 NFL Football Picks season. |
After a season of inconsistency, injuries, and mental hiccups in 2007, the New Orleans Saints look to get back to the playoff team they were in 2006. Will they get back to their winning ways or will things spiral even more out of control? Stud quarterback Drew Brees will be at the helm once again after a substandard season by his standards in 2007. There are many question marks that remain on this team and a lot of it has to do with the health of Duce McAllester. The big question mark on this team that still remains is Reggie Bush. Many Saints fans are saying that he is going to have his breakout year as the word is that he is working harder then ever. He's going to need that breakout year in order to light a spark under an offense that will most likely have to carry the load once again in the Big Easy.
The New Orleans Saints made a great move by trading up to get Sedrick Ellis in the first round of the 2008 NFL draft. Ellis followed by new rookie teammates DeMario Pressley and Brian Young should make nice additions to the New Orleans defensive front. Despite the struggles keeping opposing offenses off the scoreboard, the New Orleans defense pressured opposing Quarterbacks at a high volume last season. This high sack count should continue once again in 2008.
Young Saints head coach, Sean Payton also made some major tweaks to his coaching staff.
Aaron Glenn, signed by New Orleans in the offseason will bring some experience to the Saints secondary. Randall Gay, former New England Patriots cornerback has also been picked up by the Saints. Gay, who is also reaching his prime years as a defensive back napped 5 picks and 12 breakups during his tenure with New England.
Jonathan Vilma, acquired via trade from the Jets was also a very nice addition to the New Orleans linebacker core. Former number one draft pick, Vilma, when healthy, is one of the top linebackers the National Football League has to offer.
New Orleans will have a very difficult time getting through a very nasty stretch of games in the heart of their 2008 schedule. Their schedule includes a a 6-week stint where they will not have one single game at the Superdome. One of the games during that stint is a matchup against the Chargers on October 26, 2008 which will be held in England as part of the new international NFL. The 2008 New Orleans Saints could be many peoples pick to come out of the NFC. They also have very good odds to win the Superbowl. This is a very good team with a high powered offense and an improving defense. They are also a squad that was hit by some major injuries last year and should be a force in the NFC South this year.
