Bankroll Sports columnists have provided an NFL football team preview on the 2008 New York Giants. Read for information on what to expect from the Giants for the upcoming 2008 NFL Football Picks season. |
The 2007-08 Superbowl champions should be in contention to repeat again this year. Despite the close victory over the powerhouse Patriots, Eli Manning will likely suffer from the same criticisms again this year. Some call their championship win a fluke. With every pointing to Dallas and overlooking the Giants, this is the year that the Giants can prove the critics wrong again. It won’t be easy with the losses of Jeremy Shockey and Michael Strahan, but the Giants have gone out and injected a lot of youth into their roster.
The Giants had a good 2008 NFL draft. They are hoping their 2008 draft picks repeat the success that last year’s class of Ahmad Bradshaw and Kevin Boss had. New York sought to strengthen their defense with safety Kenny Phillips and nickel back Terrell Thomas. To give Manning another target they drafted Mario Manningham out of Michigan. Overall, the Giants are a young football team. Their stars, like Manning and Bradshaw, should continue to get better through experience. Certainly the experience of being champions should help this team. New York will be a tough team to beat if their draft picks contribute. A repeat may not be in the cards, but the Giants are going to be a good team for years.
As NFL champions, the N.Y. Giants don’t have that rough of a schedule. The NFC East will be a tough division, and they play on the road for three of their four prime time games. Their tough non-division games include a home game versus the Seahawks and a road game in Pittsburgh. Even with the tough division, the Giants should be playoff bound.
