Bankroll Sports columnists have provided an NFL football team preview on the 2008 Pittsburgh Steelers. Read for information on what to expect from the Steelers for the upcoming 2008 NFL Football Picks season. |
The Steelers returned in 2007 to put away the memory of a terrible season in 2006. They returned to the playoffs only to lose at home to the Jacksonville Jaguars. In 2008 they will be looking to take the next step into the post season.
The Steelers continue to rely on the running game to control the ball and win football games. The problem came when Willie Parker got injured and they had no other go to guy. They have lacked a power running game ever since Jerome Bettis retired, but they might have solved that by getting Rashard Mendenhall at pick number 23 in the NFL draft. They definitely added talent to their wide receiving corps by picking up Limas Sweed in the second round of the draft. The Steelers have a history of making good draft picks, Mendenhall and Sweed are no exceptions. With Ben Roethlisberger’s return to form, the offense should be able to score a lot of points this year. The big missing piece is the loss of Alan Faneca.
The schedule is brutal for the Steelers in 2008. Late season games include Indianapolis, San Diego, Cincinnati, New England, Dallas, Baltimore and Tennessee in consecutive weeks. There is the possibility of the team’s postseason hopes going down the drain during that late season stretch. Last year coach Mike Tomlin proved to everyone that he could win football games in the AFC North. Look for them to go 4 –2 in the division this year.
