Bankroll Sports columnists have provided an NFL football team preview on the 2008 San Diego Chargers. Read for information on what to expect from the Chargers for the upcoming 2008 NFL Football Picks season. |
San Diego comes into the 2008 NFL Football season with perhaps the most talented team in football. Tomlinson is back in the backfield and should keep piling up touchdowns. Quarterback Philip Rivers will continue to get better as he gains NFL experience. With weapons like Tomlinson and Antonio Gates, Rivers should have confidence in the offense to move the ball down the field. On defense they return Shawne Merriman who will be constantly double teamed and Antonio Cromartie who will keep the secondary tough. If this team stays on the field and healthy, they can make a deep run into the playoffs.
The Chargers were somewhat limited in draft picks this year. They had no picks for the second, third or fourth rounds of the draft. General Manager A.J. Smith traded one of his 2008 picks with a 2009 second round pick to New England to acquire Jacob Hester from LSU. Hester will provide a good balance in an already great backfield dominated by Tomlinson. This is a team that didn’t have much room for improvement, but managed to do so with the pick up of Hester. They also shored up the secondary by picking Antoine Cason who has a great chance to play immediately with an amazing defense.
The Chargers will be road warriors at a certain point this season. On October 19 they fly to Buffalo then fly over the Atlantic Ocean to play the Saints in London. Any team would be travel weary after that stretch.
