Bankroll Sports columnists have provided an NFL football team preview on the 2008 Tennessee Titans. Read for information on what to expect from the Titans for the upcoming 2008 NFL Football Picks season. |
Tennessee was another surprise team in the NFL in 2007. Quarterback Vince Young is one of the most exciting players to watch, but his passing inconsistency is hurting the Titans. They won a lot of games last year on the strength of the defense. In order for the Titans to take the next step in 2008, the offense needs to start making plays.
To give Vince Young more help on offense, the Titans acquired Algie Crumpler from Atlanta and Justin McCarreins from the New York Jets. Both of these players will give Young reliable options in the passing game. With offensive coordinator Mike Heimerdinger running the show, the Titans should be putting up some numbers. Heimerdinger coached Steve McNair to a great season in 2003 and should do well with Vince Young too.
The Titans didn’t look to fill their wide receiver needs during the early rounds of the 2008 NFL draft. Rather they used their first round pick to get Chris Johnson, a running back out of East Carolina. Johnson is a smaller runner, but he is explosive and could be a good one two punch with White in the backfield. It is normally not the greatest move to use a first round pick on a player who compliments another player on your team.
The Titans should be able to stay in almost all their games due to their defensive play. They should be better than their record of 10 – 6 last year. Vince Young has a good record as a starter, but is showing troubling signs. His 69.0 passer rating over the past two seasons is a serious red flag. He needs to step up his consistency for Tennessee to take the next step. The Titans have a hard December with football games against Cleveland, Houston, Pittsburgh, and at Indianapolis. They need to take care of business in December if they want to play into the 2008 postseason.
