Ryan, out of Boston College, is a 6'5; 215lbs quarterback with three years of collegiate experience. Ryan, who turned 23 in May was born and raised in Exton, Pennsylvania. Matt, with his strong-arm and good mobility was the top quarterback choice in the draft, and for good reason- the Falcons need quarterback help. Through college Ryan was able to find the open receiver very well, along with being a terrific team leader.
At Boston College, Ryan started as the quarterback from the 2005-2007 season, after red shirting his first year. During those three seasons, in just 32 games Ryan compiled a 25-7 record. Matt was able to throw for over 200 yards in 15 games during his career. Currently Ryan stands as #5 in Boston College history for passing yards, and also passing completions. In 2007 Ryan led the Eagles to the ACC Atlantic Division title, and was also named the ACC MVP.
During Ryan's high school career, he was named the first team all city, along All- Southeastern Pennsylvania team. Ryan was a three-year starting quarterback at Penn Charter School, where during his senior season he threw for over 1,300 career yards, and 15 touchdowns, with just 2 interceptions. Ryan also participated in basketball and baseball while in high school.
One negative scout point out heading in the NFL is, at times he tried to make the perfect pass and that led to too many interceptions. Coaching in the NFL will help this out. Matt will not be intimidated by the size and strength of players in the NFL, look for him to be a productive quarterback for many years in the NFL.
