Sunday Night Football is a showdown between arguably the two best teams in the NFC. The Chicago Bears play host to the Seattle Seahawks at Soldier Field in a battle that is sure to be one of the best of the season. The Seahawks come in with one of the most high-powered offenses in the NFL while the Bears possess the league’s best defense. This game is sure to be decided by whichever team sets the tempo early.
The Seahawks have been one of the most inconsistent teams in the NFC so far this year. While they are undefeated at 3-0, their offense has been very shaky. In their first game versus the Lions, the Seahawks mustered just nine total points and failed to reach the end zone. However, last Sunday against the Giants, the offense rolled, building up a 42-3 lead before the Giants put up some late scores. Seattle comes into this game with a new 4 wide-receiver style of offense. They do this to get newly acquired Deion Branch into the game. And this four wide formation will be very critical against Chicago, as Shuan Alexander will not be playing because of a cracked foot. The key to this game may be whether or not Seattle can move the ball through the air.
The Chicago Bears come into Sunday Night with three very impressive wins over NFC North division rivals. However, it has not only been Chicago’s great defense that has been impressive, the Bears offense has also been rolling through opponents. Rex Grossman, who many thought should be the back-up quarterback, has been coming up with big play after big play. The Bears also showed they could come from behind against the Minnesota Vikings last week, as Rex Grossman made up for a serious blunder by leading his team down the field with only a few minutes remaining for the game-winning touchdown. Grossman showed he is very worthy of being the starting quarterback in Chicago and that this is not a team that will just sit around and wait for its defense to win the game.
The key to this game will be which team can establish their style of play and set the tone for the rest of the night. Matt Hasselbeck will try to spread the ball around to Deion Branch, Bobby Engram, Nate Burleson and Darrel Jackson. With Shuan Alexander being out, Chicago should not focus as much on the run, but should try to take away a lot of the short routes and crossing routes. Chicago’s offense, on the other hand, will try to control the clock and make enough big plays to win the game. Their main area of focus will be holding onto the football and not making costly turnovers, like the one that almost cost them the Minnesota game. If Rex Grossman and the offense can come up with one or two big hitters down the field, and their defense can slow down the Seahawks passing game and get some pressure on Hasselbeck, the Bears will be victorious Sunday Night. However, if Matt Hasselbeck has all day to throw and the Bears allow him to pick them apart, Seattle will win this game in a blowout.
