The buzz for the 2012 Masters is arguably just as high as the buzz for any other event that golf has had in a number of years. The last time Tiger Woods was on the course, he was able to get the job done against a relatively good field at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, and now, he is going to be a man on a mission in this one to claim yet another major tournament. This is a world class field though, and there are a number of golfers that are playing the best golf of their career. It certainly won’t be an easy task for Tiger, Rory McIlroy, Phil Mickelson, or any of the other big time golfers that are going to be out there this week at Augusta National, and it should be quite the fight to see who claims this year’s coveted green jacket.

This tournament tends to bring out some of the top golfers, and that is demonstrated by the fact that the defending champion of the Shell Houston Open is Phil Mickelson (Favorite To Win 2012 Shell Houston Open: 7.90 to 1 @ SportBet Sportsbook). Lefty already has a win this year at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, and he is coming off of a year in which he only had that one win in the Lone Star State. Mickelson had a tremendous weekend, shooting a 63 and a 65, and he ended up posting a tremendous -20 score for the entire tournament to win by three shots. Mickelson is one of the top golfers in the world for sure, and he is going to be one of the top men to bet on in the Shell Houston Open.

The man that could be dangerous in this event is Hunter Mahan (Shell Houston Open Odds: 20 to 1 @ SportBet Sportsbook). Mahan has won three events in his career, and he has a great history here in Humble. He has three Top 10 finishes at the Shell Houston Open in his career, and he has really gotten off to a great start this year with a bunch of solid Top 25 finishes as well. Mahan is one of these golfers that you might be able to get a great price with at this tournament, knowing he isn’t one of the great “names” like a Phil Mickelson or a Tiger Woods that always tends to be overpriced.

One of the top golfers in the world that is going to be at this event is Lee Westwood (Odds To Win The Shell Houston Open: 9 to 1 @ SportBet Sportsbook). Westy doesn’t play in all that many tournaments here in the States over the course of the year, so this is going to be a treat. He didn’t have a great tournament here at the Shell Houston last year, finishing in 30th place, but it didn’t turn out to be the worst thing in the world after finishing in 11th and picking up a big payday at the Masters last year. There was only one tournament in 2011 in which Westwood finished outside of the Top 30, and if he keeps this up this year, he is going to be a great Shell Houston Open prediction for this event.

It seems like a long time ago that we were calling for Graeme McDowell (Shell Houston Open Lines: 25 to 1 @ SportBet Sportsbook) to be successful. McDowell didn’t have a great end of the season last year, and he really didn’t end up paying off for those who had confidence in him. He had a terrible end to the season, finishing the year out by missing several cuts, but with a new season, we would hope that he could be a bit of a sleeper for this one.

Bay Hill is one of the most coveted tournaments each and every year on the PGA Tour schedule, and this year’s event is going to be no exception whatsoever. Today, we take a look at the Arnold Palmer Invitational odds, as well as our 2012 Bay Hill predictions for this tremendous event!

Last year, the Bay Hill Invitational was certainly not an event that Tiger Woods (Bay Hill Odds: 6.80 @ Sportbet Sportsbook) wanted to remember. An event held right in his own backyard, Woods has dominated here at Bay Hill, winning the title six times, more than any other golfer in the history of the event. However, last year’s Arnold Palmer Invitational was a disaster for one of the top golfers of our time, as he had three rounds in the 70s and was never really in contention. This year though, it appears as though Woods is a bit more set to be at the top of his game, and with that being said, we know that he is going to be able to find his way around this course just find. He’s coming off of another injury that caused him to leave a tournament recently, and that might be something worth watching as Tiger tries to go his mojo back.

The man of the hour that is going to be returning as the champ is Martin Laird (PGA Odds: 60 to 1 @ Sportbet Sportsbook). Laird won his second ever PGA Tour event last year by firing a -8, 280. He wasn’t all that special on the last day of the event, shooting a suspect 75, but on a day where a ton of the scores were high, that was good enough to give him the one stroke lead. The Scottsman started off the year in fine form, finishing second at the Hyundai Tournament of Champions, but after that, things have more or less just fallen apart, as he hasn’t been in serious contention at any event, save for a quarterfinal finish at the Accenture Match Play Championships. He’ll love to be back here at Bay Hill though, and he could be a force to be reckoned with once again this year.

Of course, we are going to have to pay some attention to Phil Mickelson (Odds to Win The Arnold Palmer Invitational: 12.50 to 1 @ Sportbet Sportsbook). Save for a terrible effort in his second tourney of the year at the Farmers Insurance Open, Mickelson has done just about everything right. He won the Pebble Beach Pro-Am, and he nearly won a second straight week by finishing in second at the Northern Trust Open as well. Bay Hill is the type of course that Lefty really can do some damage on, and as long as you believe that Tiger is still tamed for the most part, Mickelson is the golfer that you are going to have to play the closest attention to come the latter stages of this tournament.

Another golfer that is going to be worth keeping an eye on is Webb Simpson (Odds to Win The Bay Hill Invitational: 20 to 1 @ Sportbet Sportsbook). Last year was really the first time that we had spoken about Simpson as a potential threat to win a tournament. As it turned out, he finished the year ranked second in the sport on the money list, racking up well over $6.6M in earnings. Victories at the Wyndham Championship and the Deutsche Bank Championship helped out dramatically as well. Early on this year, Simpson is once again doing well, and he might be shooting up your list of golfers that you will want to back on the Arnold Palmer odds this year. Simpson is coming off of a 10th place finish in last week’s Transitions Championship, which might be a good sign for him going forward here at Bay Hill.

The road to the Masters continues in the middle of March with the 2012 Transitions Championship, and here at Bankroll Sports, we are taking a look at the best Transitions Championship odds on the board and making our Transitions Championship predictions for the tournament ahead.

The field for this event isn’t nearly as strong as some of the others that you’ll find on the PGA Tour in general, but one of the men that promises to be popular for this weekend is Luke Donald (Transitions Championship Favorite: 9.50 to 1 @ Sportbet Sportsbook). Donald was one of the most consistent golfers in the world last year, and in the events that he played, he averaged finishing in a whopping 17th place, easily tops on the PGA Tour. He didn’t end up playing in this tournament last year, as he basically took a hiatus from the Cadillac Championship through the Masters, but this year, one of the world’s top players is expected to be here in Palm Harbor. With just two missed cuts all year in 2011, we know that Donald is going to be a steady golfer, and though that doesn’t always translate into victories, it does give you the knowledge that the man you’re betting on is still at least going to be in the discussion come Sunday.

Another big time name that is going to be at this event is Nick Watney (Transitions Championship Odds: 28 to 1 @ SportBet Sportsbook). Thus far this season, Watney hasn’t been the greatest golfer on the PGA Tour. However, he did log his first Top 10 finish in an event when he made it to the round of 16 in the Accenture Match Play Championship, and the very next tournament that he entered at that Cadillac Championship, he came up with his best tournament of the year at -8, finishing in 17th place. He hasn’t shot well on Sundays, posting three final rounds in the mid-70s just in the months of January and February alone, and he would love to use this tournament as a major boost to get back on his game. Watney struggled on Sunday here at the Transitions Championship last year as well, firing a 73 to fall out of contention, though he did finish in a very respectable 13th place.

A man that has always played well at this event is Retief Goosen (Odds To Win The Transitions Championship: 80 to 1 @ SportBet Sportsbook). Along with KJ Choi, Goosen is the only other man that can say that he has won this tournament twice, doing so in 2003 and 2009. The South African didn’t win an event last year, but he did post a very respectable 28th place finish last year in this tournament. You can bet that the Goose is going to want to get back in the win column as soon as possible, especially after a disappointing start to this season.

Last year, this proved to be a banner tournament for the young Gary Woodland (Transitions Championship Lines: 66 to 1 @ SportBet Sportsbook). At best 27 years old, Woodland is another one of these up and coming golfers on the PGA Tour. He put together a win for the first time in his career right here at the Transitions Championship. At the time, he was playing the best golf of his life though, as that was his fourth straight tournament in which he finished in the Top 6. To close out the year, Woodland finished in the Top 25 in seven straight events as well, and that definitely makes him someone that could prove to pull off yet another miracle as we head towards the Masters.

Tiger is still struggling with his putter, and it is really proving to be his downfall for the most part. However, he still has a tremendous game and he would love to claim this tournament title. It is one of the few that Tiger can’t say that he has ever won, and for a man that is really looking to make a comeback to the greatness that we are all used to, this could be a remarkable accomplishment.

Though Phil Mickelson hasn’t committed to this event as of yet, some of the other stars in the game are going to be here in the Sunshine State. That includes Charl Schwartzel (Honda Classic Odds 25 to 1 @ Sportbet Sportsbook). Schwartzel will only be playing in his second event of the year after the Accenture Match Play Championship last week, and few are going to underestimate him when push comes to shove in this event. Remember that he won the Masters last year, and he also rarely finished outside of the Top 25 in events. Schwartzel played well here last year, posting an even par for the four rounds, and though he finished off the pace by quite a few shots, he still finished tied for 14th and was one of the few golfers at a tough event that could say that they posted three rounds out of four under par in this tournament.

As you can see with the list of past Honda Classic champions, there aren’t a lot of big time names that can say that they have one of these titles on their mantle. Meanwhile, the winner of last year’s Honda Classic Rory Sabbatini (Odds To Win The Honda Classic 90 to 1 @ Sportbet Sportsbook) is back to try to defend his title. His odds are definitely long thanks to the way that he has been playing for most of this year. He did will at the Hyundai Tournament of Champions in January, but since that point, things just have not gone well. Westwood was one of the most consistent golfers in the world last year, finishing third in terms of average finishing position in tournaments for golfers that played in more than one event, and he could definitely be one to be reckoned with this week.

We’re not all that far away from March Madness, where 68 of the best teams in college basketball will square off for the right to be called the champion of the collegiate hardwood. The WGC Accenture Match Play Tournament doesn’t exactly have the same sort of prestige, but starting on Wednesday, 64 of the best golfers on the PGA Tour will get together for one of the rare match play tournaments of the season. Here at Bankroll Sports, we’ve got all of your Accenture Match Play picks for this spectacle starting on Wednesday!

Where else could we start than with the great Tiger Woods (Golf Odds: 12 to 1@ BetUS Sportsbook)? Woods really has never gotten back into form for the past few years, but in this type of a tournament, he only has to worry about one man aside from himself, and he can afford a few duds for holes here and there as long as he wins more than he loses. Woods has won this tournament three times in his career, in 2003, 2004, and 2008, and in that last duel in 2008 against Stewart Cink, he came up with a resounding triumph at 8 & 7. Tiger was also a finalist here in 2000, when he lost to Darren Clarke.

Of course, when you mention Tiger, you have to mention Phil Mickelson (Accenture Match Play Odds: 18 to 1@ BetUS Sportsbook) right behind him. Lefty has neither won nor played in a finale of this match play event, but just like Tiger, this is a great chance for him to figure out how to get his groove on again just before getting involved in the majors like the Masters down the road. Mickelson is going to have a rough road ahead of him in a very difficult draw, which is why his PGA odds are off just a bit from the pace that you would expect, but he will inevitably be a factor deep into this tournament.

The man that has been the runner up here in the last two seasons as been Paul Casey (Odds to Win Accenture Match Play: 12 to 1@ BetUS Sportsbook). Casey is one of the best golfers in the entire world, and he is moving up the charts accordingly. However, he just never seems to find a way to get over the hump here in match play competition. Casey was destroyed by an Aussie in Geoff Ogilvy and a Brit in Ian Poulter over the course of these last two seasons, and perhaps this is the year that he can figure it out.

Speaking of Geoff Ogilvy (Current Match Play Odds: 25 to 1@ BetUS Sportsbook), he has some fantastic odds and might make for some great PGA picks in this one this coming week. He isn’t considered one of the 10 favorites in this field of 64, yet he is the only person aside from Woods that has won the event more than once. Don’t be surprised if he is hanging around into the weekend, which certainly would make the 25 to 1 investment worthwhile.

PGA Tour betting action is set to embark on its biggest four weeks of the year. The FedEx Cup starts this Thursday with the Barclays Tournament, the first of four tournaments that will determine this year’s winner of golf’s equivalent of the playoffs. Bankroll Sports has all of your FedEx Cup betting analysis for the upcoming tournaments.

The top 125 ranked golfers in the world will get a chance to compete at the Ridgewood Country Club this weekend, but the field will get whittled down to just 30 golfers that will get to play in the finale of the FedEx Cup, The Tour Championship.

The first man to clearly keep an eye on in this event is the recently divorced, Tiger Woods (+1500 @ Sportsbook.com). Woods is going to play in this week’s tournament at the Barclays just days after finalizing his divorce with ex-wife Elin, which should finally put to rest all of these other marital issues that have gotten in the way of his golf in recent months. Woods won the FedEx Cup in 2007 and 2009 and has earned nearly double what any other man has in this four week tournament in its three years in existence. However, Woods has a major issue right now, and that’s that he has been playing very poor golf in recent weeks. Tiger enters this tournament as just the 112th ranked player in the 2010 FedEx Cup, making him a bit of a dark horse, per se to try to survive in this tournament through to its conclusion.

The man in the lead right now in the FedEx Cup points standings is Ernie Els (+600 @ Sportsbook.com). Els has been leading this competition since early March, but he has missed a pair of cuts in recent tournaments and has also been on a bit of a cold run of late. The South African also hasn’t performed that well in this tournament in its history, as he isn’t even the top man from his home country in career earnings. Rory Sabbatini is. Still, Els’ wins this year at the World Golf Championship and the Arnold Palmer Invitational aren’t to be ignored.

The ever so consistent Jim Furyk (+1000 @ Sportsbook.com) has been on fire on the PGA Tour of late, as ten of his last 12 rounds of golf have been shot under par. Furyk has a pair of wins this year at the Transitions Championship and the Verizon Heritage, and he is almost certain to make The Tour Championship with numbers like that on his side. Furyk has never been a huge factor in the FedEx Cup, but this year could prove to be an incredible exception.

The Masters winner, Phil Mickelson (+500 @ Sportsbook.com) is the favorite to capture the FedEx Cup, though. Unfortunately for Lefty, he has yet to capture another tournament this year. In fact, he hasn’t had a Top 10 finish in an event since the middle of June and has even struggled just to make some cut lines. Mickelson has had good showing after good showing here at the FedEx Cup though. However, the elusive FedEx Cup victory is still eluding him in spite of the fact that he finished third in 2007 and second in 2009. He has earned a cool $5.7M in three years in this event.

Perhaps the best option might be The Field (+125 @ Sportsbook.com), though. A number of red hot golfers are in this bunch that are certainly ones to watch. Matt Kuchar has the most Top 10 finishes on tour this year with nine, and he ranks in the Top 25 in seemingly every major category. Bo Van Pelt is considered a huge dark horse, as he clearly has the talent to come out of nowhere just as Camilo Villegas did two years ago to challenge for the FedEx Cup title. Kevin Sutherland will be one to watch as well. He has 14 cashes this season and leads the PGA Tour in greens in regulation, which is crucial to success in all four of these tournaments, particularly the first here at the Barclays.
