A: The biggest story is of course, the return of the great Tiger Woods.  After taking some time off, Woods will return to golf and test his game in the biggest tournament of them all.  Tiger Woods’ current odds to win the 2015 Masters is 38 to 1 (at 5 Dimes).  This seems to be on the high end (better payout than other books).  Most books will offer him at around 25 to 1.

Another great story is Jordan Speith.  He has been red hot and everyone is waiting for the young tour star to win his first major. He was in contention last week and lost in a playoff to J.B. Holmes. A: The first major golf tournament of the 2014 Season is here and there may be a lot more things to watch than there usually are for a major championship. All of these stories to follow make the 2014 Masters more watchable than this year’s final four. Not only that, these stories make it a very interesting major tournament in the Vegas sportsbook circle.

Here are just a few question and players to watch that are looming over August National. Come April 10th, all of these questions will all be answered;

• Can the current #2 player in the world and defending Masters Champ, Adam Scott (10 to 1 at WagerWeb) repeat after an impressive win in last year’s Masters and an amazing career changing season in 2013?
• Will the injured Tiger Woods (9 to 1 at 5 Dimes) at even play in this 2014 Masters? If so, you may actually be able to get some value in him right now. Something tells me he’ll endure some serious pain to win another Masters title & avoid losing his world #1 ranking
• Can Rory McIlroy (7 to 1 at WagerWeb) put his 2011 collapse at August behind him and finally get a Green Jacket? Will Tiger Woods even compete?

Q: Who are the players that you may have some good value on the board?
A: Here just a few I think are solid:

• Bubba Watson at 20 to 1 (at  Wagerweb):
  2012 Masters champion Bubba Watson may have some real some value at 20/1. In 2013 Watson had his struggles, and managed only 3 top 10 finishes, and was never a factor in any major. 2014 has been a different story though. He did withdraw from last weekend’s Arnold Palmer Invitational, but before that had managed three top 3 finishes, and shot a -15 to capture the Northern Trust Open at Riviera Country Club. Watson looks to be even better than his 2012 form and could definitely make a run in the tournament.
• Adam Scott at 10 to 1 (at Wagerweb):
  Defending champion Adam Scott is currently listed at 10/1 to win, where a win would put an end Tiger Wood’s ridiculously long run as the #1 player in the wold. He is very likely to be in the running for the green jacket and the World Golf Rankings give him so extra incentive. Thus far in 2014, Scott has had three top 3 finishes. He finished 3rd at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, after a disappointing 25th place finish at Cadillac championship at Doral. For the most part throughout the past 3 years, the 33 year old Australian has averaged 6 top 10 finishes, with a total of 7 of them being in majors. More often than not, Scott’s name will be mentioned as a definite factor.
• Patrick Reed at 55 to 1 (at 5Dimes):
  23 year old San Antonio native, Patrick Reed has a very good price tag at 45 to 1. 2013 was a pretty solid year 5 top 10 finishes, but his 2014 has been a lot more successful thus far. The Augusta State graduate currently has 2 PGA tour wins under his belt this year, winning the Humana Challenge and the Cadillac championship at Doral. One would have to think that he’d like to get his win in a major at the place of where he went to school
• Webb Simpson at 95 to 1: (at 5 Dimes):
  Finally, we’ll put Webb Simpson at 95/1 under consideration for a smaller play with big reward. Simpson won the 2012 US Open at the Olympic Club. Since that victory Simpson has 7 top 10 finishes, and in 2014 Simpson won the Shriners open winning by 6 strokes and dominating the field with a -24. Simpson has had only 1 appearance at Augusta, finishing 44th with a +6. Simpson certainly isn’t a favorite, but at these odds, Simpson is certainly capable of putting a fantastic weekend together.

A few months back, we broke down Tiger Woods’ expected return to golf and perhaps how long it would take the biggest icon in sports to shock the world again after making his return from being out of golf for 8 months due to reconstructive knee surgery. Well those questions were answered this Sunday, when Tiger pulled off yet another jaw dropping spectacle at the Arnold Palmer Invitational. If you were not aware of Tiger’s accomplishments through his career, you might find the 5 stroke comeback on Sunday’s final round a bit impressive. However, like most that have followed the lucrative career from Tiger we have come to expect these type of things that amaze us time and time again. Woods shot a final round 3 under 67 and drained a 15 foot birdie on the 18th hole to capture the Arnold Palmer Invitational late Sunday. The victory tied for the biggest final round comeback in Woods’ career in the tournament that was the final tune-up for the first major of the season that will be The Masters in two weeks from Augusta, Georgia.

There were a few people just starting to question if Tiger may be really ready to compete at the first major on the schedule for 2009. After some sluggish putting and questionable few Tournaments back from knee surgery, Woods still appeared a bit rusty from the time off. However, Sunday’s win will have most people back on the Woods ban wagon just in time for The Masters. If you thought about jumping out quick to throw a bet on Tiger winning his 15th career major tournament, then don’t expect to find jackpot type profiting odds. Before Tiger even made the miraculous comeback on Sunday, the superstar was already a 2/1 favorite to win at Augusta in mid April. The closest other competitor in terms of betting odds is Phil Mickelson who stands at a 6/1 favorite to win The Masters.

Taking a look at this year’s field we will take a brief preview of the odds to win the Masters and who to take in consideration. Tiger will of course be the favorite at 2/1 odds, but it is almost a losing type bet. The odds to only double your money by predicting a winner in a golf tournament are extremely low, but Woods has won 4 green jackets and he is the guy to beat every year. However if you might want to take a more profitable approach to your bet there are a few others to strongly consider. Phil Mickelson has played well through the beginning of 2009 and has won twice at Augusta as well. Mickelson receiving reasonable odds at 6/1 and will definitely be worth the consideration. Zach Johnson has one win on tour this season and finished 3rd at the Arnold Palmer Invitation. Johnson is also a winner of the 2007 Masters and stands at an eye opening 33/1 odds for the win in April. Johnson style of play is definitely one to consider when the tour rolls into Augusta. Retief Goosen has also played well early in 2009. Goosen is a two time major champion who always plays solid at Augusta and is currently a 25/1 favorite to win. Despite the many players that look like they could be promising picks to take down the first championship of the season, likely Tiger will be the guy to beat. Outside of the 4 green jackets, Tiger has finished runner-up the last two years as well. Unfortunately for Woods, anything but a win would be disappointing considering how often he has shocked the sports world through his most recent performances.
